I fished the fast water again and was fairly successful with 4 Barbel and two chub, I only weighed the biggest fish which was 8lb 12oz, again all fish in good condition and needed no recovery time and swam off well. Just a moan about the condition of the swims, the majority are unfishable in low water conditions and surrounded by snags (overgrowing trees) in high water conditions. The fishery owner needs to do something about this, some of the swims are dangerous especially to the less agile fishermen. I always take a rope long enough to reach the water which I feel could help if you fell. We are paying £25 plus a day for the privilege fishing these beats and there needs to some sort of payback ( my local fishing club is £80 a year with the chance of catching 40lb + carp)

Writing for a friend. Very limited choice of swims due to my lack of agility, I had no choice but fish the slower water which I think is reflected my fishing result. If I fish the Wye again it will have to be somewhere more accommodating.

Fished the morning in the slow water, nothing caught, later I fished the faster water and caught two barbel, both fish fought hard and were in good condition, both needed no recovery time and swam off well (probably a bit annoyed at being caught)

Sadly as per previous reports river is low and clear and weather could not have been worse with soaring temperatures and no wind so as planned only fished few hours in morning and few hours in evening , the rest of my day was spent sleeping under the trees and watching the swimmers, kayaks, paddle boards and exceptional wildlife which inhabits the Wye , the most spectacular sight being a Buzzard chasing a Kingfisher up and down the river at first light in pursuit of it’s breakfast! Mr Mink also put in a couple of appearances too!
2 Barbel and 2 Chub were caught in first few hours before sun rose on mobile rolling meat tactics on the Centrepin.
3 Chub , 1 Barbel and believe it or not a kind of lip hooked Minnow on a size 10 hook all fell to feeder fished meat in the evening session.
The biggest Barbel was about 7lb and largest Chub about 3lb 8oz .
Please note that I ONLY fished coolest parts of day in the faster ‘bubbly’ areas of the river which held the most oxygen and no fished was weighed or photographed and Only a couple in higher swims left the water to be unhooked which took under 10 seconds , all fish swam away strongly after a considerable rest in no different manner to any other time of year but in these times fish care is EVERYTHING and us Anglers all share the responsibility to treat these beautiful fish like new born babies in this heat preferably NOT removing them from the water!
