Considering the low conditions we had a fabulous day, 3 barbel from 1 rod up to 8lb and other rod producing a PB on the Wye, very long and sleek barbel that struggled to fit in the net, weighed it quickly at 12lb.
All fish recovered really well and looked beautiful.

First time on this beat. It is very well maintained with plenty of swims which are well cut out and comfortable. It’s also an easy walk from the parking area. Unfortunately, we picked a bad day to be there. The river is painfully low at the moment (reading on the Ross gauge was around 0.17) and the little water which is in the river is crystal clear. It was possible to see the bottom of the river right the way across in all but a couple of swims. Added to this it was a day of bright sunshine and high temperatures. Even if they are not feeding I’d usually expect to spot the occasional Chub lurking but it was a challenge to spot very many fish today.

A long, hot and ultimately fruitless day of fishing was the result. We tried a lot of the swims and a range of tactics. Nothing at all though could induce a bite at all from a Chub or Barbel. The ‘others’ were three Eels.

A very tough day with only one swim looking likely to produce due to very low water and limited flow in most areas. Still, two good barbel including a personal best for my made for a memorable day none the less. With a little luck we could have caught more. Weather was hot and sunny.

Very challenging day, low clear river and sunny. Similar conditions to a successful day same time last year, several swims tried today on the lower half of the stretch with various methods for barbel without success this time.

Overcast day with intermittent bright sun. Fished lower end of beat in faster water. 3 barbel on halibut pellet and 1 on meat incl. one at 9 1/2 lb. The other was a chunky 2lb eel, again to meat. Ropes a great help as steps quite a drop.

First time at this beat, and it is a gem! Plenty of swims well prepared, including one with 2 bottles of Bishops Finger. Was I right to leave them be or was it a bonus for the early risers? Fished 06:00 to 09:00, three Chub 3lb to 5lb on meat. Went quiet at around 08:00. Returned in the evening, nothing doing an various baits until I tried Cheese! 1 barbel, 8lb 3oz, thought it was bigger but not a Barbel weight expert so used the scales. Very pleased. Thank You.
