Had a couple of spare hours so took Tenkara rod to Court of Noke. I know this beat quite well and I struggled to access river. Nettles, balsam and brambles are now over head height. Can back with face and neck stung and scratched. A dozen Hereford bulls in field next to car parking space may be picturesque but do not make access to top pools easy. Have been shocked before so wary of mains electric fence down far bank that limit access down that side unless you are a limbo dancer.
Did get in a couple of places. Nothing rising - had one snatch and lost another fish after a few seconds on both on small grhe.
I won't bother with this beat again this season.

The access to this beat was very difficult. An early season catch report suggested this might be the case. Access downstream on the left side was impossible beyond the first field. Someone had tried to carve a path through the head high balsam and nettles but failed. A good days work with a brush cutter needed there! On the other side access is limited anyway and farmers electric fences don't help. In the end I gave up. Managed a few dabbles where I could but with no luck. Difficult to wade in places because of deep pools and soft deep mud. This is clearly an early season beat and basically a waste of time in midsummer. Very few rises and no luck with nymphs. Ah well a learning experience I think.

Fished from 5:30 - 7pm. Only stayed for this short time as the river was unexpectedly different, with a distinct tinge of colour. Very little fly life and only one fish seen rising. Changed from dry to duo and managed one grayling on the nymph.

Couple of hours early morning before flying off on holiday.
Plenty of fly life but little rising. Managed one nice wbt about 12" on a grayling steel blue but by 8am nothing rising at all and did not want to resort to nymph.

Took the opportunity of a couple of hours this afternoon and was rewarded with three trout and another hooked and lost. Considering that a fair few mayfly and other insects were around, very few fish rising. Two fish took dry mayfly and third an elk hair caddis. Stunning kingfisher kept me company and a superb show put on by a hare through the potato furrows. Very overgrown now....needs very careful footwork or you will end up in the river without meaning to!

3 Browns caught on gold head. Water clear but swims will be inaccessible in a couple of weeks due to vegetation. Had to cut visit short as farmer fertilising in fields.

Managed a couple of hours late afternoon. Cannot believe half way through May and this is 1st time I have been out.
Arrow was quite high and coloured and this beat has changed a lot from last season. Some very deep holes have appeared.
A lot of fly life - including mayfly, but very few fish rising.
Lost a good trout and had several small splashy grayling.
Stuck with dry fly - but probably should have tried nymph as well.

As a novice to fly angling I had a nice afternoon paddling around this beautiful stretch of river, sadly no fish caught. The river was running beautifully with only the slightest tinge of colour, weather was sunny intervals but with a strong cold wind. I did see a couple of fish and one rise on my walk down to the start of the beat.
There was a very heavy shower of cold rain just before I arrived, not sure if it was this or my poor fishing that caused the blank.
First booking with the WUF and despite no fish thoroughly enjoyed it.

I took advantage of the sunshine and lower than recent river level to wet a line. Started at 4:30 pm and left at 6pm, having fished a few pools from the weir back to the bridge. Caught a nice brown mid way along on a gold head nymph fished duo. No other takes and no fish seen rising. Still a very pleasant hour or so which was better than not being there!
