Fished from 10am to 12.30pm.
Having fished this beat 5 days ago in high water I was looking forward to giving it a go today. On arrival water conditions looked perfect. I only had a couple of hours so fished the lower end of the beat quickly only fishing the most productive looking areas.
The trout were in the mood and after 2.5 hours 15 had fallen to a PTN barbless fly. The largest a cracking 14inch fish! I rarely photograph any catches but I had to take a quick pic of this one.
8 salmon par also came to hand.
All fished returned. Small stream fishing at it's best in my book.

A hard few hours on this fantastic stream that obviously has potential. Fished from 7am-10.30am.
The main river was high carrying lots of colour and unfortunately so was this beat.I very nearly went back but decided to have a walk/fish and use it as a recce for the future. With the Water 6 inches above my ankles I could only just make out the metal lace eylets and with the water just below my knee they were not visible at all. Conditions were fishable but only just. And air temp was down to 6 degrees C.
A small trout fell to a GRHE variant on the 3rd cast. I then fished the next 40 mins without a touch. Wading up the stream was slow going with the conditions.
I changed to a bright Red Tag with gold bead and first cast it took the best fish of the day at 10 inches. After that, takes were more regular but with the coloured fast water I was bumping and loosing far more than I was hooking.
The natural nature of the stream meant that every type of presentation had to be used from every angle which was great!
I fished using a Tenkara 10ft rod and single barbless fly. In hind-sight I would have fished a version of the Czech style in the deeper runs as these areas were the most productive but it needed to be bouncing the stream bed.
I'll be back as this beat has real potential!

All fish caught dry on Adams or rusty Klinkhammer. All returned. Largest 12", most half that. Went barbless and as many fish "fell off" as were caught. Also hooked several quick salmon parr. I fished methodically and got to top in 6 hours. Great conditions. Water a little cloudy, overcast and a weak breeze. No hatch to speak of so all fish tempted up.

10-1400 lots of midge some olives. No rises so prospected with various dry/emergers and small yellow klink produced one 6"wbt. What a sport for grown men! Water good I think but first time here and only half of bottom section covered. Will be back for sure.

Only spent an hour here but plenty of action - a few salmon parr to supplement the four trout including one of 12" taken on dries and olive nymph.

Steady trickle of fly coming off on a very hot day but little surface interest although did rise a few. Fish to hand all of modest size and the usual number of on and offs and long range catch and release.

I couldn't do this beat justice as I hadn't realised how steep the valley was and how much walking was involved. My fault due to a medical condition and not realising I'm getting older by the year.
Two little trout on klink and dink - one out of the first pool up and the other out of a run further up.
I shall just have to retire onto the easier main river beats in future and start referring to myself as an old fart!

We were disappointed with this beat. The lower section flows through a very steep sided valley and can be accessed only at the bridge at the bottom. It did not look too appealing so we fished the upper section and found it hard going. Wading stick was essential and the fish were not at all co-operative. Our progress was blocked by a fairly major waterfall. We decided not to go back down and fish the lower section but to move up to the next beat which we had also booked - this was a good decision.
