Only fished for a few hours, had 5 trout all on dries. Medium olives and yellow emergers working well. Not ideal conditions, very low and windy.
Lost a sizable fish which will keep me awake tonight.

A more overcast day today with a nagging downstream wind. Very little fly activity in the afternoon though a fish of a little over a pound was taken in the fast water run below the bridge and a very small trout on a PTN too. We crossed the (extremely low) river and explored the farm flats at the bottom of the beat in the evening. Thankfully it was much more sheltered there and there was a better hatch and, eventually rising fish. The hatch was a bit of everything, mayflies, olive spinners and sundry tiny flies. We couldn’t (again) seem to work out what they were taking. But, at around 8.30, I put on a small sedge -even though I couldn’t see any hatching, and cast to a regular riser close into the bank, downstream of a pile of dead wood. The tiny riseforms were misleading. One battle later, a very fat two and a quarter pounder was in the net. A cracking fish and great fun. Final day of our trip today and the wind is really up. Crossing our fingers…

Very tough conditions. Usk is as low as we've known it and bright hot sunshine most of the day. All but a couple of the stretches of faster water are too skinny to hold fish and the slower stretches are even slower. Only 9 fish between three of us but of those three were at 2lb and two at 1lb.

Rainy morning and sunny afternoon. Few fish active during the day but lots of rising fish in the last hour before dusk when there was a large hatch of mayfly. 3 fish caught were all around 1 lb in weight. Caught on sulphur dun mayfly.

The day started well, with fish rising and three fish caught early on. Then the colder northerly breeze set in, which seemed to kill the sport entirely. It was hard going from then on, very little rising. Mayfly were hatching sporadically, but even these were not being taken off the surface.

A hot and sunny day. Occasional rises in slower stretches of water but fish showed little interest in a range of dries. However both of us hooked and lost decent fish on nymphs in faster water. An enjoyable if unproductive day on a delightful beat
