Had forgotten how much of this beat there is – and only got half way up today! River showing her bones but plenty of insect life around and a few fish rising – although the decent ones had to be searched for.
Fished parachute dries as always for 13 fish between us. 10 brownies from 4 to 15 inches and 3 grayling from 9 to 18 inches. Unfortunately the big grayling had been on the end of a cormorant attack.
There are some clonking trout in this stretch. I lost what looked like an 18”er when he took me around a rock and broke my leader but we saw two fish significantly larger than that…one day!

Thanks for another excellent day.

Very warm day with clear skies. Fish taken throughout the day did slow off considerably during the afternoon. Sporadic hatches which were short lived. Beautiful countryside. Most fish taken on bead heads.

The river was low and clear, and with bright sun and little wind it was going to be a tricky day.
There was a good mix of hatching insects. Black knat was prolific, the fish didnt seems to be on anything specific. I missed fish on most flies that i tried. A 16 grey emerger was take with confidence by the three fish that i had.
It was very much a day for concidered casting rather than just covering water.
As every a stunning place to fish

River was at a good level, warm sunshine but breezy at times which made upstream dry fly casting difficult. All Grayling took an iron Blue klinkhammer pattern. No trout caught.

A lovely day on the river. Brief LDO hatch at 1pm but not many fish rising to them - I suspect down to the very blustery conditions. Nymphs were obviously very active though and trout were keen to intercept my imitations.
