I really enjoyed fishing this beat. The scenery is stunning, and the water is varied which can suit any style of fishing. I did okay considering the conditions and fished weighted nymphs upstream "euro-style". The gauge was at .71 first thing in the morning, but a steady rain caused rising water with lower visibility as the day progressed.

I landed 5 OOS trout, two of which were really nice and over 16" all of them were healthy, lively and returned safely. I only managed 2 grayling - one around 5" and the other about 10" and had a few others hooked, but didn't get them in. I look forward to exploring more of this beat as I only saw maybe 1/4 of the water.

Overall a very enjoyable, yet cold and wet morning of fishing.

River level was good. A blustery day. I struggled to access river as I am too old for this now. Managed one grayling and one osb, leaded nymphs, but a better angler would have caught much more as conditions and river were pretty good. Probably my last ever river trip, unfortunately.

Fishing Passport Note : Take a look at The Colonels Water up at Llanwyrtyd Wells... very easy access here.

Trotting today. Gauge was at 0.65m on this very blustery day. Walked a lot and tried an a large number of pools for the larger grayling but to no avail. 3 grayling landed were very small which I guess might bode well for the future. One of the 3 x OOS trout was magnificent at 17 inches, fought well and carefully returned without leaving the water, would have been very pleased with that in season on the fly. As ever a delightful tranquil setting, did not see a sole all day.

Trotting maggot for grayling.
This fishery remains a shadow of what it was ten years ago, nevertheless a lovely place to spend a day.

First time we have fished the Irfon and tried winter grayling fishing, what an stunning beautiful piece of river, cant believe we have not tried this type of fishing before. Trotted maggots and fished most of beat a lot of walking. my mate based him self at the church end and had the bigger fish, couple of nice chub 2 to 3lb, lots of small grayling all along river up to 10" to 12" no larger fish but did loose a few as well. nice trout around 2.5lb, brilliant day, river was around 0.9m probs pushing through a bit, but the fish were feeding all day, will be coming back soon hopefully. also seen an otter near church.

A tough day searching for grayling on this beautiful stretch of river. I fished upstream of the church as far as the Grandstand Pool. A brutal downstream wind made casting/control difficult with the French leader, but I stuck with the nymphs all day. As the light quickly faded, I'd managed to winkle out 4 out-of-season trout and 2 tiny grayling shots. I did spot an impressive decaying spawned-out double-figure cock salmon, which I suppose was good to see, but I ask again, where are the grayling? Quite depressing really, when I remember how good this river was 10-years ago. Unfortunately, I saw more Goosander than grayling.

The river was falling after the previous days rain. Sadly no grayling were landed but a few slipped the hook. One small chub from the lower end of the beat broke up the trout fest.

A very cold and rising river meant that only a couple of small trout saved the blank.

First time trotting with a centre pin. Small grayling first cast and 1lb trout second cast. Gravel beach just above church. All downhill after that. Low and very clear not helping. 0.474 cilmery gauge.
