I’ve fished this beat many times over the past 10 years but not this year. I’d been watching the river levels carefully and at 7 am the reading was .622m which is just about fishable and although light rain was forecast it had risen to 0.652 by the time I started at 9, by the time I left at 3.30 it was 0.924. No sign of fish and the water pushing through too fast to wade safely. I also lost a relatively new Snowbee retractable wading stick, the cord somehow snapped in the current. Btw the stile is completely broken and the boards across the ditch overgrown with brambles. I love this beat and will be back.

The river was borderline fisherble at .71 on the Byton gauge, tough fishing and I saw more Otters than Grayling. Still an enjoyable day on a lovely stretch of river.

Arrived early and thought that river looked pretty decent ( water level 1.47m at Mordiford ) started at lower end but started to move along and quickly realised that I was in for a tough day ! The end result was 2 Chub both around 3lb to 3 1/2 lb, both on meat close in , only 2 bites I had and fished hard, I guess the water is very cold and has knocked the Barbel feeding on the head? First time on this beat Barbeless but hey that’s fishing !

Absolutely love this beat , it’s a stunning place to be and cannot recommend a dog peg and rope enough this time of year , this Wye mud after flooding is like Ice!

I’ll be back !

2 Chub

Rainy start but river clear, and powerful requiring cautious wading. Fish all came to dark knight point and godolphin (pink bits) on dropper, in the slacker margins, thankfully. Fish to 15”. Another cracking day thank you Mr W.

Beautiful day out in glorious countryside, but drew a blank - attempting to find grayling on French Leader with various nymphs.
