Very quiet night for sewin but I caught loads of brown trout. The sewin picked up about 3am but I still couldn't connect with any although they were showing at the bottom of the flats. Maybe next time.

I fished Crewil Pool from 10pm-4am, sharing with three local club anglers. Several fish moved in quick succession shortly after 10pm and I thought it was going to be a good night, but it then went very quiet with only the occasional larger fish splashing about. Four anglers fishing the pool in constant procession was possibly too much traffic for the sewin and either they went down or carried on running as none of us caught any fish. The best I could manage was a pull from a probable small shoalie at dusk in the shallow water at the head of the pool, and then another possible pull around 11pm in the main part of the pool after the fly had swung around and was being retrieved on the hang. In desperation I tried a spinner in the railway bridge pool at dawn as it seemed a bit higher and with a slight tinge but that was dead too.
After the flood last week there are more sea trout in the river. Quite a few were caught daytime spinning last week, and the Golden Grove fishery downstream had a bumper week.

I had one small sewin of about 1.5 pounds in the day on the fly. It went quiet as it got dark but it also rained for about half an hour. After the rain cleared the fish began to show and jump just as my phone and head torch batteries died. There are a lot more fish present in the river since the last flood.

Conditions absolutely perfect for spinner and worm. I opted for the latter. On arrival at around 8.30pm, 2 other anglers were just packing up. One had caught a 2.5lber and lost a 4.5lber on spinner. The other had caught 2 trout around a pound, also on spinner.
I loaded a worm and had a good knock first cast. Second cast produced a hard fighting 2.5lbs silver sewin, netted by one of the other anglers. 3 other fish to 4lbs followed in the next hour with several others missed. One fish around 1.5lbs taken home, everything else released.
Fish appeared in the head of the pool with a few larger fish showing including a couple of double figure clonkers. Left happy around 9.45pm after it all went quiet.
Returned at 5am and to a chilly morning and a valley mist. Not good as in my eperience, a mist generally puts the fish down. Had a few knocks, sewin and trout but nothing took enthusiastically. Had the absolute pleasure of fishing with 3 otters right in front of me for half an hour. Beautiful. It seem this last rise has finally brought some fish up river.

I fished Crewil pool on Friday and Saturday nights. On the Friday I only managed to fish for less than two hours due to very heavy rain and lightning storms passing through. There were a few big fish showing, but only a couple of smaller shoal fish. I was fishing the pool with a local club angler but neither of us had any takes before bailing out at midnight.

On Saturday night I managed a full night of fishing (10pm-4am), fishing through the rain which persisted for most of the night. The river had risen a couple of inches after the previous night's downpour but was still running relatively clear. I was surprised to have Crewil pool to myself so had several runs through, starting with a floating line and size 6-8 singles (Alexandra, Yellow Peril, Deuoni, All Rounder) on point and dropper before moving to a fast intermediate with a black&silver 1.5" tube on point and various fuller-profiled flies on dropper. I finished the night trying a jambo in the slower lower part of the pool. A 5lb+ sea trout was crashing about in this part of the pool, and smaller fish were showing in the mid section. I didn't get any takes on Saturday night either, but it was good practice (new to fishing for sea trout).

It would be good to hear from others about what tactics work well on this beat (flies and lines etc).

N.B. If you're fishing the main beat and aren't local it's worth checking National Rail Enquiries (Llandeilo to Llandovery and vice versa) as there will be trains coming through the open level crossing at the time when you're likely to arrive (8-9pm). Visibility either side of the crossing is obscured by vegetation (it would benefit from warning lights).

This is a great beat - good access and safe wading. Really pleased that WUF now has booking options for sea trout waters - the more the better!

Had a couple of hours in the night after some rain, no sewin for me but the river looks healthy with a nice flow. The river had a slight stain in the water but there were a few anglers out. I saw three sewin jump and heard a few more on the move, it was a very dark night with a slightly stained river so my chances were slim but you cant catch fish at home. Did once again catch some nice brown trout all over the 1 pound mark.

Half-pound trout taken and returned above the bridge on the upper beat in the late evening on a black-and-red bibio. Water levels low, water clear some breeze. Lots of trout rising but few taking, 6 others missed. Sewin seen and active.

Had a quick hour on the run below the Railway Bridge after helping Eifion and Geoff to pick over a thousand Himalayan Balsam between us. One sewin flashed a tail halfway down the run but wasn't interested in my fly. Loads of small trout rising again. A lovely way to spend the last couple of hours of light.

Absolutely loads of small trout surface activity from 8pm until 10pm and in a short 20mins with the 4WT trout rod, caught 9 brownies klink and dinking between 5 and 10 inches and missed/lost twice as many, fishing barbless.
Broke the sewin kit out at last light and moved to the pool between the main beat parking and Crewil. In the gloom I could see a few fish splashing down stream of me. They weren't of any size, 2-4lbs but I think they were running as I had a 2 sharp tugs but they didn't stick. Maybe if I wasn't fishing barbless they might have!
No one else around. Lovely evening though on a lovely beat.

2 nice brown trout. River quiet probably due to low conditions. Lovely water though.
