Chilly day, river very clear and had settled to a manageable level, much safer for wading than pre Christmas levels.
All 4 caught in the first hour, raising my expectations for the rest of the morning but the fishing gods decided that was my allocation for the day!
Main lesson from this trip was a reminder to get the nymphs to the bottom as there seemed to be immediate results when I adjusted depth where I felt I was fishing too shallow.
Great to get on the river after the recent poor weather, always fun on this great stretch of river.
No photos this time as just too cold to faff around and get the phone out :)

Took advantage of the easing rain and warmer weather to head over to Llangollen. Great day out, even though a blank. Struggled to find the fish, perhaps a combination of trying new stretches of the river, as well as technique! Although the river level had dropped considerably, it was still pushing through at a pace and so I remain very wary of getting in too deep. Given the pace, hard to find the slightly slacker stretches where the fish might be sitting - and otherwise the weight of the nymph would need to be equivalent to a brick to get it down to the bottom :)

Mild weather spurred the drive over for some winter grayling. River high and running at pace so didn't venture too far into the river when wading.
Struggled to find the fish but really chuffed to get two fish on a dry, one good grayling and an OoS brown which caught me by surprise as there was no obvious hatch or rises - just goes to show that it is always worth trying a dry on some of the seams.

Another fun day on the Dee. River high but certainly fishable, care needed when wading as water pushing through at a fair pace. Water clarity pretty good given the height.
Caught a small grayling with first cast, and then shortly thereafter, caught a big 'un on a nymph - so excited that I managed to lose the fish from the net after taking the hook out while I was thinking "must get a photo of this one"!
Always like to try a dry fly and that proved a fun move, caught 5 more good sized grayling on a dry on the 3 stretches I fished.
Looking forward to fun trips across the winter.

Tried a few different spots on the extensive fishing available on the ticket. Started around Jenny Jones island and whilst it looked really "fishy" barely got a bite.
Stopped at the Sun pub on the road to Trevor - note that the beat map says parking available there for 3 cars......clearly out of date as luckily I stopped in to check, apparently it is only before noon and they are very proud of their new CCTV and £60 parking fine policy. As I parked up at 11.50am, glad I checked!
Headed to Ty Mawr, some interesting stretches, with lots of fun in the last 30 mins with grayling deciding they liked to look of a dry fly - the hi viz pink para Adams, which I now refer to as the "barbie".
All the grayling caught on dries, all the trout on wet. Another fun day on the Dee.

Another fun day on the Dee, mainly small fish although both grayling worth getting the net wet. No doubt that the rising water temperature and bright sunlight making fishing conditions tough..........can't wait for the arrival of autumn weather, maybe a little more water in the river and milder temps.
So much fishing on this ticket, the beat maps are excellent in explaining parking and access.

A comedy of errors, lost flies, lost fish, taking a dip in the Dee but fun was had and fish were caught. Gambled on the weather and lucked out with only a 20 minute deluge around lunchtime. River running higher and with pace, so care needed when wading, especially in the town stretch - at least I can confirm the auto inflate on my life jacket works.....cold water, surprise and embarrassment as I took a tumble.
Top end of the beat not as productive as lower down, seemed to attract smaller trout although lost a decent grayling at the bottom end. Explored the lower part of Ddol Issa beat, lovely stretch. Parking at farm but don't forget to pick up a tag at the top of the driveway, where there is a book and tags in the box by the gate. Finished at Bont Bridge run, access from south bank very limited but some good spots accessible from the path on north bank. Felt very fishy, plenty of grayling, lost a cracker at the top of the pool, needed a brief time out to console myself as my droopy bottom lip was impacting my casting!
Ended on a high, getting a good grayling to take a dry - a "barbie" adams, in bright pink! Hadn't seen a rise all day so proves it is always worth a change of tactics.
