Caught one beautiful 2 1/2lb trout at about 6pm, on a SBJ with wings. A decent fisherman would have caught many more, as there was a good evening rise... River obviously very low.

Three brown trout taken on wet fly fished down-and-across. Difficult conditions with a gusty downstream wind and bright sunshine but the trout-spey did the business

River in excellent condition and plenty of fly life (grannom) about. Patrick and Sarah Lloyd had 4 wbt between them, best 1 1/4lbs, all on small dry fly.

High and coloured water. Wading too risky. Hardly fished. Nothing caught.
Access very difficult in places. All gates were locked and required climbing over.

First day ever fishing the Usk today - what a magnificent river. The main midday olive hatch was met with heavy cold rain, I was amazed the trout were so switched on they didn't stop rising throughout. Me with soggy CDC was left powerless, what I'd have done for one of those foam sugar cube emergers I used to carry! Had a few on the CDC when the rain eventually stopped the rest on size 20 midge and gold head, best 15inches.

River very high but clearing and falling. Caught 14lb hen salmon on size 8 silver bodied Alley's shrimp. Cool and overcast. Fish not fresh but clean and in excellent condition.
