Fantastic beat, lots of big trout sipp9ng off the surface even in the middle of the day. Lots three lumps from the same pool due to poor quality tippet, finally landed a couple later on.

My fishing chum had a decent one out of the mouth of the Senni and four others in the main river.

No fish caught. Not that surprising as one rod had never fly fished before (and doesn't fish) and the other rod was tutoring a lot and isn't that experienced on rivers anyway. Plus we only fished the middle of the day. The setting is great, kingfishers, dippers etc. The water was incredibly low. We saw several fish in the deeper pools but the only fish rising consistently that we saw, was safely tucked away under a tree!

Such an amazing place, and so beautiful. Epic upper Usk. Shallows, deep gullies, waterfalls… it’s got it all. Amazing rock formations too. River was low, but it did have a good bit of flow after yesterday’s rain (no rain for the previous two weeks or so). Clear water, so fish easily spooked. Mixed conditions, heavily overcast most of the day, rain showers and maybe 10 minutes of sun!

Odd glare off the surface was hard to contend with. Polarised glasses helped, but it was so dark on occasions that they became useless. Two fish caught, one more lost just before the net. Decent size fish, probably 14” approx, and thick. Klinkhammer indicator with nymph below, all taken on nymph.

Two tiddlers. I hoped that the water would be freshned up by recent rain, and the fish too. Turned out, it was only me! next time.....

A bit of rain, a lift in levels and much cooler water temps. A few olives around, and spinners at dusk so all good. These trout are tricky to catch though!

This beat is slippery due to algae and wading is very difficult. Caught one small but beautiful fish in Dry fly.
