Its lucky I started early today because the river was rising rapidly all morning (it had come up 1 foot by lunchtime!). Gave it a bit of a go in the afternoon but by then it was too coloured and I really only had one spot that was fishable!. all fish caught on nymphs fish under an indictor. Grayling to 12" (most were 11-12") and the trout were all quite small.

9 anglers from Charfield Angling Association enjoyed a day on the Upper Wye, with 5 anglers on Ty-Newdd and 4 on Gromain. They caught plenty of trout to 13" and grayling to 15", on both dry flies, light nymphs and heavy nymphs on both beats. The most successful were those that managed to sink small nymphs in the deep runs on Gromain. Approximately 25 from Ty-Newdd and 55 from Gromain, with about 2/3 of those grayling. A very enjoyable day. About 10" on the Llanstephan gauge.

A great day out with friends Oliver Burch and Rob Evans. This is a very impressive stretch of river with lots of fishing. The weather was kind – a few fish were moving throughout the day but not as many as expected (considering the conditions). We were lucky to take fish on dries all day. There’s a fair walk to the bottom boundary, but it’s worth it. I’m taking my sandwiches with me next time to save walking back to the car! Although there’s an idyllic view from the fishing hut.

Our first session on this beat, and a terrific stretch of water. Large sections of the water are readily accessible, with a variety of slow and faster runs.
A high wind downstream made it challenging, but we tempted a few to the net with small weighted nymphs and spider patterns. Numerous parr were caught (counted as 'other' in the return) - so nice to see a healthy river.
We'll certainly be back to this stretch.

What a day! Arrived to bright sunshine and what proved to be mainly parr rising upstream of the house, cloudy by 10.30, an hour's thunderstorm around midday, more showers than not throughout the afternoon plus an intermittently mist-clad river. Spooky! At least it was still all day, warm, water at 60 degrees and fishable at 1'5" though pushing through. Hardly any fly and hardly a rise. We fished duo, nymphs and also tempted grayling to come up to Grayling Steel Blue, and olive and hare's ear emergers. All three methods caught fish. Trout from 10 -14" and grayling from 9-15". A hard, wet and less successful day than hoped for at 9 a.m.!
