Fished spiders from 10.30 am to 3pm and not a touch or a rise seen. At 3pm the fish started to feed and I landed 4 to 13”

Great beat. Only fished the upper part of the beat, water was gin clear and looking really good. Plenty of insect life but sadly nothing I tried took the trouts fancy. I did have a take on a Spring Olive nymph in the fast water just above the pumping station but he shook off pretty quickly.
Despite one of the previous anglers saying the access was tricky, I found it ok. The access is fine but caution is advised as some of the bank access can be a little steep but doable if done slowly. Wading I think is better than other beats I have fished on the Usk.
I will definitely return and can see this becoming a regular beat for me.
I managed to speak to a local angler who informed me that some of the deeper runs just below the bridge is certainly worth a cast or two

Booked a weekly ticket from Sunday the 13th.
Arrived Sunday and set up at castle knights campsite, walking distance from the town bridge. Walked the river but didn’t fish it.
Monday - blank, nothing happening.
Tuesday - blank but lost 3, one on Griffiths gnat, two on PTN
Wednesday - caught six, lost four, all on klink and dink, ptn. Two of them absolutely smashed the klink. Ranged in size from tiddlers to a lump of around 2.5 lbs. Also lost a good fish that I didn’t see because it stayed deep but it felt heavy.
Thursday - caught eight, lost three. 6 on ptn under klink again and two on dries around 4-6pm. One took a emerger olive, one a size 18 f fly. Fish were smaller than Wednesday on the whole, up to about 1lb but mostly around 8 inches.
It’s been a great week, hatches of MB and LDO but not in large numbers. Some small black things about too. Didn’t come across a large fish taking off the surface all week sadly but the smaller ones that are are very picky, and casting is very challenging in areas so all good fun. Recommend it!
