Started 2.30pm. Nice temperature at about 22C. Water levels extremely low. On landowners advice I focused on the top half of the beat where there are more riffles and moving, oxygenated water. Waded alot. Didn't see any fish moving so was focusing on Euro Nymphing (never done it before so haven't got the hang of how to do it really) and caught the two grayling hours apart in turbulent water beneath natural weirs on goldhead copper wire-bodied nymph. Saw one trout (not grayling?) rise at about 8pm and then put it down as I tried to reach it with lobbed nymphs. The nature of this very beautiful stretch of river is that there is lush undergrowth everywhere so not sure I would have managed to cast a fly-line properly too often.

A really lovely day’s fishing despite the near-record temperatures. Water very low for the valley but still lots of deep areas. Tough fishing given the conditions and the lethargy of the trout but a few bites, which were earned the hard way. Glorious beat, even in this heat, and whichever band had arrived at the Studios to record kindly allowed us to refill our water bottles (I hope they weren’t famous enough that I should have recognised them!).
Absolutely stunning stretch of the Morrow, lots of deep water even in a drought/heatwave, some lovely stone “beaches” to set up camp in the shade in. Very much recommended.

The water level was low, the conditions were overcast. Only saw a single fish move all day. Access to the river is well signposted and cleared but access points are very limited and in places very steep. The banks are very overgrown which makes wading a necessity for casting. Wading is straightforward but there are some very deep sections which cannot be waded which makes back tracking to the nearest cleared bank access necessary. Although I did not catch any fish I will definitely return as it is a beautiful part of the world and a lovely looking river.

Lovely area to fish, the river fairly low with a good amount of fly coming off the water, but not many fish rising. Fished dry fly managed two but put a lot of fish down as wading towards them in low almost stationary water. Also saw three mink working the banks.

Warm sunny day with occasional breeze. Water low & clear with a few mayfly hatching throughout the day but little action on the water. 1 10" Grayling taken on a Duracell Nymph during the morning & 1 10" Brownie on a Pink Mary in the afternoon
