A fairly continuous rise of olives and mayflies until the temperature dropped in the early evening, rises were few and far between though. The river was low but weather conditions were good so we were a tad disappointed with our two fish, the best of which was 10 inches. One of the party hooked a sizeable fish which bore down to the depths and snapped him in some tree roots leading him to believe it could well have been a chub! All fish taken on dries.
A pretty beat that would benefit from a bit of a trim!

Tough day largely due to the storms in previous weeks, gave it a go but quit when the snow started. Would definitely come back as the river is stunning

Cold and crisp to start, with a bright blue sky but once the sun went in it got cold pretty quickly. I’d recently seen good reports from this beat, but it was a slow day for me, and disappointing in the end (especially as the waders I thought I had fixed still leaked!). Just one 7-8” Grayling (on nymph) early on, and then nothing after that. Interestingly the Grayling was followed-in almost to my feet by a larger WBT. I’d never seen this kind of thing before. I thought that my mind was playing tricks on me, because it looked like I’d hooked two fish at once! The trout, spooked, eventually sped off.
There was a good amount of water, pretty deep in some places. I’ve fished here before and it can be tricky to get into the river. Lots of debris around from last year’s storms I guess, and this years high rainfall. Great to be out on the river again.

As others have said it's pretty overgrown but it's an interesting beat. There are a few access points marked on the beat map but some of them have fallen trees blocking access to the water. Looking at the pictures from previous anglers the water was a little bit couloured on my visit. Trotting maggots resulted in some small chublets and an out of season brown trout. I tried dropping luncheon meat in likely looking spots in the hope of picking up some better chub but didn't get a sniff. Look forward to returning ahd having a go in some of the other swims.

Looking at other catch returns, it would appear I did rather well, although it didn't feel that way at the time. Lovely lovely beat. Very secluded once away from the house. Beautiful and varied water. Yes, access difficult and there are many parts unfishable with the fly. The pools and ruffles more than make up for it. Had a chunk of a trout using a gbhe in a deep pool, 2 grayling from the faster runs and a chub from a classic chub swim, under a tree... Where there were one or two much bigger fish present... But of course the smaller one beats them to it.
A very enjoyable beat with ideal weather, but low water conditions.

Lovely day, river conditions were good. Water level was fine, and water temperature not too hot. however we caught no fish, though a good size chub followed a 'yellow daddy' that I was fishing with, for some yards, it didn't take.
The river looked in good condition with plenty of 'spricks' minnows, and tiny trout, the water was clear, and there was a low key insect hatch just before sunset. Both kingfishers and dippers were about.
