Trout were in the faster water below the suspension bridge. Tricky wading in that part of the beat.

The fish were caught in Dolmeudwy, Cottage pool and Spring pool, with an assortment of spiders and nymphs. A few more fish showing on the surface today but couldn’t tempt them to take any dry flies.
Trout to 12’’ , Grayling to 13’’. Surprisingly, no shots or parr.

Plenty of rising fish all along the beat, though mostly down the bottom towards the bridge. Most turned out to be grayling who all seemed full of energy but always seemed ti trout about. All fish between 10 inches and 16 inches and returned safely.

Concentrated on the water between the suspension bridge and the bottom of Dolmeudwy. There are some interesting glides and hollows, as well as Dolmeudwy’s pools , which were holding fish. Gloopy underfoot and a four hour wade. Trickles of olives throughout kept fish looking up, but all flies on the cast attracted takers.

9 x Grayling 6-13’’ and 11 x trout 7-11’’, plus many juvenile fish that are still plentiful here. Also one lovely trout of 17’’ which took a hackled GRHE in skinny water in the flats below the bridge pool. A few trout also came to a # 14 F-fly very late on , below the brook at the top of the beat.
Very enjoyable day and nice to get a few off the top for a change on this water.

First day on the Wye this season, river low and crystal clear. Although the sun was flitting between the light cloud an upstream breeze made it feel chilly at times. No sign of any kind of hatch so opted to go deep in the upper pools managed to pick up a few between us. Gold head PT nymphs size 12/14.
All fish returned unharmed.

Fished with a fellow member rod today with only 6’’ on the gauge, but we had fish from the off and caught steadily through the day finishing at 5.30ish.
Ferry down to the bridge was very productive but with a lot of trout parr beating bigger fish to the fly.
Later on, 13 trout to 14’’ and 3 large grayling to 17’’, plus lots of small fish were caught along the length of the spring pool to the hut, with two good size trout on the same cast on two occasions.
All caught on a team of wets and nymphs and quickly returned. Nothing caught on the surface and barely saw a rise all day.
The only downside was that the wading on the heavily algae covered bedrock was treacherous in places and a number of clatterings could easily have resulted in a broken wrist so care is needed.
