My first time on this beat. The sun was bright and the river low and slow so it was hard work. The occasional fish came up to investigate a passing dry fly. Things got a bit more animated during the last hour of daylight and one beautiful trout of about 12 ounces took my Adams and saved me the indignity of a blank

Hot and sunny, and river low. Fished dries/emergers all day as fish were attracted even when nothing rising. Missed a lot of takes. No monsters caught, but 3 were 15-16". One or two very big fish moving in almost dried up tail of Sewage pool. Very nice beat.

Evening ticket Met the same poacher as last week. Same time same spot. Reported him to the NRW for what it’s worth. This time he had two light coloured dogs with him. Whippet / lurchers. He obviously likes the beat. Must be local.

No fish were taken. The quality of the fish and the fight they gave were superb. We only fished dry flies and found many fish very difficult to get to rise. We enjoyed excellent fishing with a Sedge during the last half hour. Successful flies were Mayflies, Adams and Cinnamon Sedge. The river was lower than two years ago when we fished at the same time.

After a period of heavy overnight rain, a brief rest and the heavens opened again, remaining open through most of the day. River was up by 2inches, with a tinge of colour. My experience of fishing dry flies in the rain, has never be good........until today ! There was no shortage of fish rising and one rod took 4 fish to 1.75lbs in the first half hour. This activity continued through the day, and we accounted for several fish of 1.5lbs to 1.75lbs, six fish of 2lbs and another fine fish of 3lbs, with copper flanks The remainder between 0.5lb and 0.75lbs, making the days tally up to 29 trout. In my book fishing for trout with dry flies, doesn't come much better than this. Thank you to the WUF.

Arrived mid morning to find plenty of fly life and fish rising, we couldn’t get our waders on quick enough! Then I had a very entertaining morning trying to tempt an obviously big trout which was rising frequently in the smooth water just above a riffle, it stubbornly refused my dry fly over and over and carried on munching all manor of aquatic fly life which drifted towards it...most frustrating. Finally I got the take I’d worked so hard for and promptly missed it, so I moved on.
I found another rising trout which was far easier to tempt but as I saw it turn it threw the hook...more frustration and possibly a swear word or two followed.
Before long I found myself back where I’d started and facing another round with the big trout which was by now happily sticking its head up and flicking its tail as it fed. This time I took a few deep breaths, tied on a lighter tippet, double checked my knots and got very carefully into position and made my cast. It was a good cast and as I watched the dry fly I’d tied myself float down stream up came the trout and took it, what followed was heart stopping stuff but eventually I got it into my net and I could breath again, a new PB WBT, I was very happy indeed, thank you WUF.
