I didn't fish in the end - the prospect of arriving to find a 2-3 foot rise of dirty cold water peaking at exactly when I was due to fish didn't exactly inspire me with confidence. I've fished through those conidtions before and whilst sometimes you catch, it can feel a little bit like a war of attrition with the current and the rubbish coming down the water. I'm hoping the catch reports from other beats don't prove me wrong... But if they do, then fair play to them (from a fair weather fisherman!)
Roll on June!

Probably the coldest day of the week and certainly the wettest. A hard day with the river rising and the rain pouring. Nothing caught on the feeder but when we switched to trotting the float for chub using maggots we managed three nice fish. Looking forward to revisiting the same stretch in the summer. Thanks to Don.

Last trip to the Wye for another season, river dropping and clear and weather wise a lovely spring day. Fished the bottom croy for most of the day resulting in 3 chub and a dace with a couple lost to hook pulls.
Spent the last hour after the Salmon anglers left trotting above the Middle croy after advice from the beat owner. Another 3 Chub and a Parr. All fish to maggot, nothing on pellet.
Biggest Chub was 4.02lb with the rest the usual 2-3 lb fish. Lovely short stretch of the Wye, roll on summer !

The water was a bit rough so nothing caught that day. Would have had better chance if weather better. I will maybe try in summer.

A mild day in prospect and the river fairly high but with it looking very fishable filled us with some hope. Having fished here before when the water was much lower it gave us a very good idea what a difference some rain makes to the Wye.
We enjoyed a steady days fishing and caught a few decent Chub with the biggest just over 3lb came as the light was fading. Plenty of chublets and dace were showing plus a very lively small Grayling. Not a long stretch of water but a real treat in the Autumn afternoon sun and we thank those for providing us with the opportunity to fish it.

Fished the waggler using maggot and once the canoes had departed caught steadily throughout the day. River levels had dropped nicely from earlier in the week and I had an enjoyable days fishing catching small chub.

Fished from first light to noon. A tough morning. 3oz feeders no longer holding bottom so forced to fish the crease about four rod lengths out. 2 chub around 3.5lbs and a cheeky little minnow. The banks are very slippery so be warned!
