The morning brought the last of the decent weather …. Whilst it stayed decent there were spasmodic hatches of LDOs, uprights, March browns and sedges. The fish were quick to respond and we winkled out 4 …. Nothing spectacular, all in the 9 - 14 inch class but all fit and hard fighting … all taken on grey size 14 parachutes and safely returned. Everything went quiet after the wind changed direction and became cold about 13.00.

Ashford House is a singular beat. As others have pointed out access points are limited but they are at the points where you get in to the river to catch the fish . Wading is essential but it’s not too tricky. The fish are stunning and it’s a lovely beat … wonderful wild flowers and bird life. Thanks for the fishing…

Gauge just right at 1.2m at Monmouth, accessible fly water fishing runs for the ford, rope and parsons stream all good provided care taken with a wading staff. Other water covered with spinning gear, to no avail with no fish seen. But worth remembering what can feel at times like cosplay from a different time has the potential with the next cast on the Wye to result in a once in a lifetime fish. That with the surroundings, comradeship and joy of the cast is what we're here for - Wonderful!

A toughie today .... Only a brief visit really, from bottom of the beat up to the bridge.....She's low and clear at Cregrina ...And actually, although a warm day waters really cold!!!
Fished from midday to half one .... Four to the net, nothing huge, best about eight inches maybe .....
Good fun, two pukka risers...to sedge that were active from about half twelve in good numbers. They're very location specific here, when they're hammering the sedge . ....... Fun hits on the tiny Cdc and Elk though ....
The other two were in likely fast riffley bits, that had visible sedge activity above them ...Great fun, but this beat will suffer like last season if its not topped up .. Lots of skinned frogs, think i counted fourteen, obviously Tarka been really busy..... and im guessing full too !!!
The quick session really was because of a recce of the far wood, to see what squirrels activity there was ...Plenty of greys on the go, time for a visit with the Theoben.... bag a few before all the leaves are out !!!
Up in the Cwm Elan with a client tommoz, great fun ... time for a well earned cuppa now !!!!
