Definitely made the right decision to fish Courtfield on Sat 7th October. Fished the top meadow swim from 8am until sundown. Perfect conditions with a coloured and dropping river, and the barbel were having it all day long despite bright sunshine and a flotilla of canoes and paddleboarders. 14 landed, with at least 4 good sized fish between 9-10lbs (possibly 11lb, but left scales at home so unfortunately don't know exact weights). Also had a brace of chub. Groundbait feeder with 18mm boilies wrapped in paste doing the business - a proper red letter day! Already looking forward to the next trip, although this one's going to be hard to beat.

Wednesday Fished the top section of the section, 3oz Feeder with pellet and meat hookbaits. Caught a personal best 6lbs 2 Chub very pleased with that despite breaking my long landing net handle in the process. Also caught a smaller one at around 3 and a half pound. A two foot Eel which also took a liking to my meat baits was fortunately lip hooked and easily returned.
I found the swims at this top end a challenge to get to but more worryingly the steep banks and 5 foot drop to the river was always on my mind especially as the water is around 6 / 8 feet deep close in. Do not attempt to fish these swims without a seriously well pegged down rope sufficiently long to get you back up to safety, if it rains the banks are a cross between Ice skating and mountaineering..

9lb & 7lb barbel, 2lb chub and 1lb eel. All caught on feeder with halibut pellet and luncheon meat.
Fishing very difficult. Banks steep and slippery with no easy footing. Trees and bank vegetation overgrown.
Info sheet needs updating as large No Parking" sign by water works compound.

Fished the upper end at water treatment works. Fish caught on boilies on longer hair rig in an attempt to target barbel and a oid Chun. Caught 4 barbel between 6 to 9lb, and 3 Chub with larger fish at 5lb.
Access to swims was limited as we didn't bring rope and spike which is a must for most if not all swims. Suggested swim on confirmation email was overgrown and not fishable, however we fish up stream of this as per the guidance and had an enjoyable day.

Only fished from 2.30pm until sundown. River was dropping from the spate a few days ago but still had some colour. I fished by the remains of the wood crib using feeder and pellet tactics. 3 barbel caught, no sign of chub. All in all a good short session.

The path through the woods and access to swims was a little dicey, the mud steps down to the water were still slippery from having recently being under water.

Our first time on this beat and the upper section of the fishery was off limits because of anglers on the other bank. However, we found a couple of promising looking swims further down. The river was about 1.2m up but clearing and not too much debris coming down. All fish were caught in the edge, a rod length out and all fought really well in the increased flow! We had an enjoyable day and the view, particularly as the river bends around to the right is absolutely stunning. I am already planning my next trip to the Wye! Thanks W&UF.

See comment on 18th Sept for the appalling state of this fishery! On a very wet day it was treacherous.

"Other" was an eel.

fish from both wood area and Legg Meadow. This fishery has deteriorated massively since last visit. Swims in Legg Meadow were dangerously high above water for both angle and fish (when landing them). Path along the bank is very overgrown and dangerous in parts. A once good fishery is now sadly in a very advanced state of decline.
