River 0.41m and clear. Took Charles to woodstream and got him roll casting with a single weighted nymph. He hooked a fish which, though not large, broke him, and he had no other offers.
We went for the last hour above the rock, where Gabe had landed a nice trout on one of his ancient wet fly patterns.
I got a few takes on dry dark olive but none hooked themselves on the lift so I went home empty handed.
A pint in the Chainbridge was just the job!!

River low and very clear. Not a great deal of flow. Fished a floating and intermediate head no takes to various Salmon flies. Lovely looking length of river above the bridge.

My first full day on this beat... the first time was an awful day and we left early. The water was very low on the Brecon scale, but there is a lot of deep water here. The first thing I did when I got in the river was frighten a 3lb trout. I hooked several of his cousins but my strike rate has been poor for some reason this year and they all got off.
I had one exciting experience though.... I was fishing for a row of rising fished and hooked one. As it moved i could see it was rather large.... I thought 'That must be 4 or 5lb... Record trout, here I come!!', but as we fought, I could see the scales were wrong for a trout. I landed a 6lb chub! It was a very fine fish and I of course returned it. I think all the other rises were chub too.
It might not be a target species, but it was an exciting fly-fishing experience, and none of us can ask more than that.

Arrived at 8 a.m. 0.65 m on gauge. Nice tint. Few fish seen. A blustery day with horizontal drizzle. Delighted to hook a lively fish at the pub decking, which cartwheeled upstream to show it's displeasure. Feeler cascade held firm and a bright 12lber was landed 10 mins later. River dropped to 0.59m on the day but colour held.

Caught 1 brown trout each on small mepps spinners, biggest fish about 1 1/4 lb, both returned. Both caught above bridge on hut side. Before we left 3 men appeared with rods and no tackle bags and started spinning who obviously hadn`t paid. There was a car parked in the lane above the hut but wasn`t sure if it was theirs, otherwise I would have took down the number and reported them.

Very enjoyable evening on the Chainbridge beat, two small wild browns to the dry for my efforts to a pattern I tied to use on the Taff and its tributaries not too dissimilar to an Adams. Both safely released.
A first outing for me on the Usk... I spent a lot of time during my session observing the fish as I do at any venue and noticed that there were a lot of juvenile chub present. I initially thought they were dace but managed to get a closer look after hooking a few of them on the dry. There seemed to be plenty of grilse throwing themselves around and very surprisingly a shoal of mullet working their way along the margins of the pool at the top of the boundary. I didn't see any sizable browns upstream of the bridge however I did see a few in the two lower pools but they were too difficult to cover as I couldn't wade there due to the deep water.
A LOVELY VENUE FOR THOSE PREPARED TO PUT IN A LITTLE EFFORT. WILL RETURN SOON!

Water .75 and some silt preventing clarity in more than 3ft so decided to spin. No activity till 5pm then fished over a fresh 6lb fish which moved upstream of me at a rate of knots and out of our beat.
Saw and landed one of few feeding trout on dry white wulff at around same time. Fish of about 6oz returned.
Saw, hooked and landed a 4lb grilse at the rock at around 8pm on copper and black FC. Spinner came out in net so able to return fish without handling. Fish was not fresh run and had began to show some colour and was a cock fish.
Disappointingly no late rise of trout as temperature dropped sharply and wind picked up. Water still .72m at 10pm
