No fish from me or - I'm pretty sure - from the two other bank anglers. Conditions OK. Caravan dwellers on site said it had been a tricky few days with nothing consistently working, and what action there was mostly late in the evening. However a boat angler bagged 3 on small black dries in a few hours, but found them out in the middle, beyond (my) casting range.

Great day at Middle Hill with bites from the 1st cast. Ended up with chub to 4lb and barbel to 9lb . At times I would get a fish within 30secs of the bait hitting the deck! Ideal conditions with the river up about 1ft+ dropping and a good colour with the weather warm and partly cloudy. There seems to be a good few new swims cut out in the bottom third of the beat especially for float fishing with additional parking down opposite the castle. Surprisingly I didn’t have anything in the last few hours of the evening but who’s complaining! No doubt return at some point probably in the Autumn

Area:Upper Wye

Beat:Upper Clochfaen

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

Dry fly and nymphing, the latter only successful, average length 15cm.No fish taken. First 2km fished which required 4 river crossings each way. The vast majority of the river fished has boulder covered bottom making wading more difficult. There is a very distinct lack of fish.
Booking using the Passport system is straightforward.

River up bit and a touch of colour. Fished the slower water on the near bank for a couple of chub but then moved down to the faster water on the inside and picked up the barbel , all within an hour. Sticky baits 16mm Krill did the damage for those who think its important. Find the fish and bait selection is academic in my experience but bait companies have to make a living so whatever you have confidence in go with.
