Very strange. Used to be a member of Merthyr AA and the taff was prolific throughout the year for trout. But no signs of any. Grayling were active though.

Very sunny Easter Sunday. Plenty of walkers, picnickers and stone throwers out! Just found the small ones today. Best fish were a couple of 12-inchers.

Nice day, river still low and clear but recent rain must have helped. March browns and olives trickling off from 12-4 with trout rising sporadically throughout the day. 6 trout to 1.5lb mostly on olive emerger patterns.

Unfortunately the water was very murky with only a few inches of visibility, there was quite a bit of rain in the morning which did not help. The beat had some passable sections but overall didn't have any exceptional water to fish. There was a brief hatch of olives (20-30mins) but no rises. Managed to hook one swinging a wet fly in the riffle but didn't land it. Very many people walking there dogs and throwing stuff in the river but this is not surprising for a town water. This was also our first time fishing the Usk so maybe that had something to do with our rough day as well. However, after having fished different beats on the Usk I must say that there are much nicer looking beats with nicer water and no dogs swimming or people throwing rocks where you're fishing. Will not be going again next time visiting Wales and would not recommend.

Was raining and with a cold east wind made the day difficult. Water level fine but as noted, top of beat very coloured. However, managed a small Trout on Pink tagged nymph. Water mid to bottom was cleaner and across and down produced my PB Grayling 10/12" which took a size 10 soft hackle March Brown nymph. All returned quickly and barbless hooks used.

Fished in the afternoon after heavy rain. Took me a while to crack the code - a small, slim, dark-bodied nymph with a pink bead eventually got them interested. Caught three trout and lost the biggest one (as always).

Repairs to damaged track leading to left bank car parking need to be completed - not so good for low ground clearance cars at the moment.
