Day 2 for me on Upper Breinton got off to a slightly later start than planned after being unable to gain access to the campsite I was booked in to and sleeping in the car park. By the time a bankside breakfast had been eaten it was close to 7 when I got fishing. There seemed to be a slight drop in the intensity of the fishing with a slight drop in temperature and a little drizzle in the air but chub from around a pound to almost 4 lb came all day long to feeder fished halibut meat and pellets. A barbel around 6 lb came along mid afternoon as did the sun and the chub kept on coming. Another similar sized barbel as evening fell signed off my first and hopefully not last visit to Upper Breinton (or is it Breinton Common?)
The misty drizzle earlier appeared to have dried off entirely as it did get quite warm in the afternoon and the drive back up to the road was fine, with a couple of little slips until I got to within about 20 feet of the gate and all forward motion stopped. So I tried sideways, little backwards, find a flat bit etc. until eventually by going to the bottom of the first field I was eventually able to find some flat ground to build up some speed to make it out of the gate, with the last few feet a real struggle. I wouldn't try it with any dampness around unless you have a proper 4x4, not an overweight Hiace. I'll be back with better tyres.

My favourite swim wasn’t fishable due to a fallen tree so I fished a peg with a lot of streamer weed in close. Dropped luncheon meat in gaps in the weed - bites straight away. Lost the first two through not getting their heads up quickly enough but I soon learnt. Only fished for an hour until the rains came - biggest two chub were 5lb. Never thought I’d catch in that swim with so much weed present but it just goes to show! Please sort out that fallen tree ( near where the farm dumps / burns it’s rubbish ) - I love that swim (!)

Nice amount of water, but the number of large fallen trees really spoil this beat, only sign of life were crayfish, otter prints and remains of at least three crayfish and otter spraint on a large pebble, assuming tney are signal crayfish by their size and blue colour, at least the otter is thinning them out! Slower pools had distinct grey/blue tinge to the water, sawmill? Who knows, but not as bad as the Wye below Hereford, shameful whats happened to our local rivers and streams over the last ten years. Ideal salmon spawning stream but no sign of part or any fish for that matter! Nil point!

Fish caught on a variety of ledgered baits in fast water.Pellets, luncheon meat and polish sausage all took fish.
Perfect weather conditions today -cloudy, with rain. The river looks better than it did this time last year although there is still algae evident on the gravel bed.
All barbel and chub were between 3 and 5lb.
Good to see plenty of Birdlife including a Dipper and Kingfisher . Only 3 canoes all afternoon ( the rain helped!).
