Great afternoon. Energetic little brownie. Caught two, could have caught many more, but thought I would try for salmon. I had a knock, much to my surprise and the hook snapped. Could have been a very large trout, but I believe I saw enough silver to think what might have been!

We started the day with a climb up Twyn y Garth hill to the Garth Gun. Spectacular views and the hatch of Coch-y-Bondhu beetles up there had to be seen to be believed! Shame they were not on the river!

The water at Llangoed was rather discoloured… visibility 2ft maximum and more foam than usual. Lots of sedges and a few duns emerging, mostly yellow mays. Haven’t seen as many small fish in the river for a long time that is good news… perhaps the absence of cormorants and goosanders has something to do with that?

Equal numbers of trout and OOS grayling biggest 10 inches … and one OOS dace! There was a shoal of them which is good to see, avoided casting to them as a day too soon!

We stayed till 2100 in the hope that the bigger fish might show but only one did … a salmon that did a majestic cruise past us with a large bow wave before turning to show us his flank. Great to see!
