Stunning stretch of river. Conditions were bright sunshine and water was lower than we expected, but the fish were active and plentiful. Stuck mainly to the fast water on the beat fishing nymphs, variations of Hare’s Ear seemed to be the order of the day.

Bright, warm day, river reasonable height although a few extra inches on the gauge would have been nice. Took two beginners for their first taste of river fishing. Never tied on so many flies in my life, but worth every minute. Both newbies caught - nothing better than seeing the joy on someone's face when they catch their first wbt in such a beautiful environment. 7 wbt in total, best about 14", all returned safely.

Significant hatches throughout the day - March browns, LDOs and the odd yellow mayfly.

Afternoon fishing session on stretch above High Force Falls using waders and wading staff (definitely needed). Good water conditions but wind was a real challenge especially as we were fishing the dry fly only on light tackle. 7’ rods with 3/4 etc floating line. Majority of fish taken on Klinkhammer and parachute dry flies on grey and brown patterns and size 16 barbless hooks. No other anglers seen and we fished up to the the quarry.

1 x Sea Trout c. 3lb returned. Caught on a sunray in the Church Stream.
Lots of good sized Chubb around, 6 caught up to c.5lb & one small brown trout, 1/2lb all on the fly (sunray).

Really nice beat when combined with the Creel, enough fly water for a good days fishing. Wading is pretty easy throughout, although can be a little challenging getting in and out of the river, as the banks are steep. Good access for the most part, paths have been cut, although getting to Church Stream from the left bank was challenging.

Two fish showed, one in the Pulpit and one below Church Stream, looked to be Salmon ?

Certainly under-fished (Salmon) hence the returns don't do it justice. However, after 15th June the beats separate, then I would struggle to find enough fly water to justify a full day ticket.

1 Trout, 1 Sea Trout, 6 Chub
