4 of us fished this beat for the first time. Conditions were tricky - cold and lots of debris in the water . That said, we all had a great days fishing and all caught, something we’d all have dealt on given the weather. All fish fell to feeder tactics close in the slacker water. Barbel around 7lbs. Chub around 4, one nearly 5lbs.

After realising that the weather conditions of sleet and freezing temperatures would make it a most unpleasant day we decided to travel the long distance back home instead of fishing. A good decision as the rain and sleet continued all day.

What a wet day! Just my luck after the low clear conditions. Sadly nothing caught or seen but from the catkins bringing the first flush of colour, the bird song filling the gorge - my time here is always a pleasure.

However what wasn’t expected to ‘breach’ in my swim was a Grey Seal. Have they ever been known to travel this far upstream before? Thankfully the creature didn’t loiter and carried on till out of sight, I dare say to upset the Wyesham beat too.

My thanks to Mr and Mrs Hudson for a lovely day on their beat, ill look forward to returning very soon.

After a good day yesterday same beat, today the weather turned against us with heavy snow so we decide the risk not worth it and decided not to fish. Will back in the summer !
