No fish but I have some observations. As a local native I’ve fished this beat since the eighties when it was a private syndicate. and it’s as tranquil as ever. The river was in slight flood and above the weir base wall level - which is the best level for any fishing. It’s concerning to see the wye minnow dwindling. This is a problem in the food chain.

In addition a number of cormorants also need to be controlled by the EA as they’re invasive, kill salmon pink and are unruly in these parts. They will also kill the trees with droppings, in time, ruining the banks and leading to erosion.

On the plus side it was great to be watched by otters and watch the kingfishers. Looks like the mink have gone also ( possibly otter population drove them out) as they were the top river vermin in the eighties and nineties.

A great day out as ever.

Can’t wait to be back.

Keep up the good work WUF.!

The river was well up and in good flow which made for careful wading. The fish were scarce and only some trout were tempted by the nymphs I used. A lovely day to be out though.

Lovely day, but no fish. River in spate and very muddy so didn't expect much. The trip was more a new year escape and a chance to try out new kit- on this measure, it was a great success!

Tough day, first time on this beat, not many fishable swims, I'm not sure if that's because the river was so high, might be more accessible when it drops, I only payed £10 but would be disappointed if I'd payed more,it's a shame as there's a lot of river to go at just not a lot of access unfortunately when the river is high.
I did manage 4 Chub in close, the biggest weighing 4lb 6oz.
