A couple of late barbel in the session. I tried for pike but nothing came to my lures today. I spotted an otter in the swim and shortly afterwards hooked an eel. The otter grabbed the eel halfway in and gave a great account of itself! Fortunately it had grabbed the eel by it’s tail and I was able to land the eel which was returned bloodied but still fighting fit.

Very good day with 4 Barbel all weighing 9lb something, plus another at 4 c. 5/6lb. Still waiting for my first River Wye double, but getting close. The fishing died for an hour 4-5pm, after wondering why for a bit an Otter brazenly popped up right in front of me. That was a worthwhile trade I reckon! Throw in a Kingfisher and a good few 3-5lb Chub I went home happy.

Following a really interesting a motivating session the previous day we arrived at the river with high hopes.

It was a beautiful morning, a falling river, mild weather and we had clear tactics in mind as we settled into what was in essence a pre-baited swim because we were returning to the pitch used the previous day that produced 3 great barbel and a monster run that got away.

Oh dear, best laid plans and all that produced a session with no real activity at all, two bites all day producing two small chub, in fact very small chub based on the Wye average. So, very disappointing and a reality check that you can never assume anything with this river.

Hey ho..that's the challenge that attracts, it's not 'catching' it's 'fishing' and we shall return in the new year with renewed vigour and the knowledge gleaned from our three visits this year. Overall it's been a really rewarding 2022.

Expensive for such a short stretch of river. Hard to move along bank as is very steep and slippery and blocked halfway along by branches.

River came up over a metre whilst we were there, hard conditions eventually found a couple of barbel in a slack, with the biggest going 9lb 2oz.
