2 fished today. Less rain than yesterday, still mild but with a further foot of water at the start, rising by another foot and colouring up during the day. One fished at the top and one at the bottom with expectations that it would be better than the reasonable day we had yesterday. However it was not the case. Mr P had 3 chub and a barbel from a swim down the bottom which produced more in the afternoon alone yesterday. Steve had one from the top in the morning and 2 from the straight late on to boost an otherwise slow day. As has been the case recently bait changes have often produced fish followed periods of waiting.

Beat:Middle Ballingham & Fownhope No.8

Fishing:Coarse

On arrival the river had an extra meter on. Trotted maggots for a couple of hours which resulted in 2 barbel.
Then changed to bottom fishing for the other 3. A hard days fishing on this beat.
Access to this beat is very dangerous.

Fishing Passport Note : In the early part of 2025, 20 new steps were incorporated in to the path leading down to the fishery making access much easier than before.

First time on this beat, the fishing was hard. Tried 4/5 swims but did manage 2 barbel, biggest 6lb. No swims fishable until the dead tree swim. Then 4/5 in the meadow. Tried first swim in the woods but didn’t venture further. Will try again.

2 Barbel
