Beat:Abergavenny Town Water

Fishing:Trout (River)

Caught only 3 and released. Dogs everywhere in water at upper half section of the beat, couldn’t fish whole beat because of people throwing sticks, balls and the dogs in the water of course. Not a good day for fishing .

Had a great day today on this beat, used both float and feeder. Can’t wait to come back. Biggest barbel 8.5lbs, and biggest chub 5.2lbs. The gravel road was a lot easier going back up this time in the dry weather, the car managed it okay.

Chub to 5 lbs. plus to meat and bread, majority on float, couldn't get the Barbel interested. Only a couple of swims fishable in the field below the woods and they are full of cow pats, very unpleasant, did'nt stay long, fished most of the day in the woods.

A lovely morning in an outstanding natural environment. We both failed to catch anything although there were plenty of fish rising and we saw many trout from the bank. Lunch at The Bell was a grand way to round off an enjoyable morning.

A very beautiful stretch of the River Wye, and I much appreciated this and the careful maintenance of the riverside with new access paths to add to the experience. Fishing was excellent, despite the lowish water.

Very low water conditions. All fish caught on hinders dumbell bait. Canoe traffic looking for deeper water often passing over fish swims. Thoughtless canoe pilots stopping in the few fishing swims on this beat for lunch and swimming caused confrontation.

Trout of 15, 15 and 16 inches, two on nymph in daytime, one on small sedge late evening (10pm), broken by a bigger one. Also a 4lb chub on a nymph. Fish very finnicky/shy, but those little dimples prove (when one occasionally gets one, even if waiting to 10.15pm) to be substantial fish...
