A good day. River height was fine, running clear, but loads of debris. A tree is blocking the stream half way up.

2 nice brownies between 4-6 inches, missed quite a few takes as well. Used a pheasant tail nymph and a small broken daddy long legs. All returned to fight another day.

Some days it’s not about the fishing. Blue skies and high temperatures were off putting to the fish. 2 small chub and a few half hearted pulls. Access simple in the dry, I can imagine when wet the grass on the hill would be interesting in a car. Decent flow at the bottom end of the beat but limited summer access with bank side growth.

Our favourite beats were all booked so we plumped for here as reports in the past have been good. After a bit of investigation we settled on the fast water at the top of the downstream section. None of the 3 of us has a bite in between 2 and 3 hours fishing. So Disappointing as it looked very barbelly. 2 of us then moved further down for 2 chub (2lbers) and a pristine pound barbel. Fished the last 2 hours till 1815 up the top for 2 pound chub and a snig. Fished a variety of hookbaits with pellet feeders. Still a nice day though

Low water levels. Very little seen in the way of rising fish despite lots of flies coming off the water throughout the day.
Two fish to the net (3/4lbish),.
Further two fish lost after the jumped all o er the place amd shook the hooks ( barbless).
Two kingfishers seen in the evening sun ... lovely stuff.
