the Res water level was down about 10 meters , weather was overcast, slight wind and cool. Plenty of surface activity as flies were hatching. 7 rainbow trout caught and 1 brown trout of size that was returned. Overall weight of bag taken home between the two of us was 19lb of fish.
Two of the fish caught on copper coloured 7gram Toby lure, the rest were caught on worm using a cork pop-up to avoid the Cray Fish. An excellent days fishing

The river has dropped overnight and got a whole lot clearer and the fishing was definitely more difficult but nevertheless another lovely day

Bowled up at one of my favourites , the Llynfi Dulas , initially overcast and a slight breeze !!! Annoying kind of breeze too !!! Especially when fishing a tiny dry !!!! Still , tackled up my usual small streams outfit and opted for a tiny Deer Hair Emerger as last time I was here some activity just about midday with lots of upwings on parade !!!

Same scenario today and as I walked down to the Stream at ten I did see the first olive as I approach the downstream beat start ..... lovely job !! By midday it was a plethora of upwings ... a real party down in the valley.......

Slippery customers today !!managed five to the net and quite a few off including a cracker which swam straight towards me fast !! Obviously I couldn't keep line pressure so he was off !! Never mind , all part of the fun ...

Great on the dry today .. fished till half one .. spot on although as I've mentioned before , stealth is paramount otherwise they're gone !!! Only fished up to the junction pool , cut out into the field and a slow bimble up the bank back up to the truck ... a fun few hours and five lovely Dulas fish caught and released... as always a great adventure .....

Stunning and otherworldly gorge with pool after pool tempting upwards. This is a lovely, long and challenging beat - but no fish, at least there were none today apart from one who slashed at a klinkhammer a couple of times before disappearing back into his lair. Despite super stealthy tactics I saw no other fish apart from one rising below the waterfall at the top. Strangely devoid considering what I'd heard. Will return...

That hike doesn't get any easier but such a spectacular setting and very pretty trout. Unfortunately none of the larger residents were dining today.

I wasn’t expecting to catch today but from what I could gather the river was up 6” this week and a change in weather might’ve stirred a Salmon from its slumber down in the deeper pools but the river looked as though it’d dropped back down to its bones overnight. I gave Mill Stream, Neck of Rectory into Rectory a few hours on the fly but didn’t get a pull or see any sign of a Salmon.
There were a few fish rising to the very sparse number of flies so I nipped back to the car for my trout gear and promptly caught a nice OOS Grayling on a dry fly to save a blank before heading home before the rain.
Just an observation but I’ve fished the Tay, Tweed, Swale and Hampshire Avon in the past week and all were alive with aquatic fly life of all varieties but the Wye in comparison seems lifeless.

Very quiet day, very few fish seen on surface. Missed a couple of takes but that’s all. More a day for the nymph really.
Enjoyable though.
