Glorious day of blue skies and early spring warmth. The river was coloured and about 12 inches above summer level. I walked the beat and then fished it twice. The water looked good and was at a a decent temperature. But no flies came off and no fish rose. I enjoyed the excercise and would like to return.

Having been at 0.89m on Saturday the river had risen again to 1.45m by the time we arrived, with 6 inch vis, but was just starting to fall. 3 of the group arrived early and fished swims at the top, I arrived just before lunch and fished down the bottom. Beautiful day, sunny for the most part, with 8.9 degree water temp. We all caught barbel (two had 1, one had 2, and the other one a fab 5, between 5lb and 7.04). The chub was 2lb and the other a gudgeon! All fished predominantly gb feeders with meat and pellet in and an assortment of hookbaits - meat, big flavoured pellets, small boillies. PJ had his first 2 Wye barbel, Mr P (that’s what we call him) had the 5 having only caught one in his last 5 Wye trips. A lovely end to the season fishing with great mates and only 106 days until I go back!

9 Barbel, 1 Chub, 1 Other

The river was high again and quite coloured, but looked good. The weather was less promising with near-continuous sunshine following early frost. I started fishing around lunchtime and saw no evidence of fish for over three hours. Then a few chub rattles and a nice fish of over 3lbs. Finally, as the sun dipped below the horizon a good bite and a very feisty barbel around the 5lbs mark. I contemplated staying on, but decided to finish the session and the season on a high and packed up.

1 Barbel, 1 Chub

Surprisingly tough day, river 3 foot up and dropping. Looked perfect for a few on the pellet. One Barbel about 5 and a 4lb Chub and that was my lot. Still as always great to spend last day of the river season in the Wye Valley.
