Caught the river on the drop and with lots of colour. Very bright and hot day but managed 12 barbel and 7 Chub all from the top end of fishery on feeder and pellet or boilies. Biggest barbel went 9Ib with most being around 7Ib. Great beat as always with rope installed on most swims. Well done to the fishery management.

Against Nathan's sensible advice, we tried fishing but the river was very coloured so visibility about 18 inches even though the water level had dropped to 1.18m at Redbrook so some marginal wading was just possible on a couple of pools.

Lovely beat. Easy access, parking and directions. Lots of leaves made fishing static baits tricky at times. Cattle present but well behaved.

Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

Lyepole seldom fails to deliver. The river was up a couple of inches, with a good flow, and still carrying a bit of colour from last weeks' rain; but was probably the better for it. Steady progress, none of the flurries of fish I normally associate with Lyepole at this time of year, but a dozen plus from upstream before lunch. All on a tungsten nymph. Were it not for the otter and the cormorant that I was sharing the beat with, I might have had a few more; the cormorant was particularly troublesome, surfacing right along side me on one occasion, and giving me the evil eye, before flapping off to spoil the next pool. Downstream after lunch. Odd fish on a nymph before a switch to a klinkhammer, after seeing a fish rise, brought another half dozen plus in rapid order from the same run
