Area:Taff

Beat:Taff Fechan

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

Fished an evening with LW, new sec. of MTAA. The Fechan is essentially a tailwater - water temps are always cold even in a heatwave. We fished the upper area just under the dam. Plenty of fish about between 6 and 11 inches on nymphs and dry flies.

Well with the weather at scorchio, adjusted my fishing !! Up just before four ,.pooch out for an hour,
water in the hens and some grain , piggies fed then off to the Whittern beat of the Arrow . . .

Parked up at the easier Titley Bridge pull in as its not obscuring the gate at the overgrown Hunton Bridge parking spot. Tackled up and walked back down the Road to the beat start !! Positively pleasant even in a t shirt and waders !! Lovely job!!!

Fish keen to smash a well presented Parachute Iron Blue or the Rusty Klinkhammer I fished this morning. Some great sport and seven beauties to the net . . . Two of them lumps for the Arrow , maybe pushing fourteen and sixteen inches the other five were the standard tubby eight to ten inch brownies.

Fished from half five to half eight , which was just about right I felt !! Shall do that again later in the week . . . Plus its lovely being in the river so early !!! Most of the fish were tight in this morning cwtching under the over hanging cow parsley !! Great takes to the dries this morning and a cracking three hours to be fair . . . . Back to the Ponderosa and a rather civilised late breakfast !!! Sorted!!!

Fishing All day- Trout 0.00 / There is a huge amount of perch in the reservoir, the conditions for fishing trout are bad - part of the territory is closed.

Chose not fish. Given the water condition. Not ideal venue for handling fish in these temperatures.

Lovely scorching day again. All fish from the deeper channels where there was still enough flow. Absolute monster hooked in the confluence pool up near the top of the beat, 3 seconds of him going hell for leather before a windknot or something broke off! Saw a very docile eel up the top of the beat, great to see. Great beat with easy enough access and a stunning mountainous backdrop. All fish on the duo, two for the dry two for the nymph. Same number again and some unhooked themselves and missed takes. Cheers WUF

Hopeless fishing ....just eels, eels and more of the blasted things. Water quality poor due to hot conditions.

The day was baking hot and the river is very low. Not ideal conditions to put it mildly. We fished on through 25 degree heat and cloudless skies. The sun on the water was relentless. None of this explains why having tempted a fish up to a dry fly in about 6 inches of water, I failed to land it.

No matter we had a lovely day sitting on the river bank watching the river and speculating on how good the fishing would be with the right amount of water and a bit less sun. Just goes to show there is much more to a days fishing than catching fish although a fish would have been a nice bonus.
