Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:The Eyton Beat

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

21 x grayling 6-16 inches, 1 x out of season trout 14 inches, trotting. A cold, grey day, but the river is in condition. Three good ones, but grayling of all sizes turning up here, so it seems like a healthy population

Clearing water, fewer leaves in the river and 1'2" on the gauge. Surely there'd be grayling about! There were. Had eight between two of us. Two bumps all day for me... but my fellow angler got all eight of them!

Pellet and feeder tactics were tough today and in hindsight we should have taken a bucket load of maggots! Lovely beat. Cold morning start and bright sunshine probably didn't help but a nice day nevertheless.

A freezing cold day with ice on the already slippery rocks, so I was rather cautious and failed to find any grayling.

Frosty start at 10am, water cold and clear. Spent the morning trotting maggots and the afternoon nymphing. Four of the grayling came to a nymph, the other fish to maggot. All fish safely returned.

River very low and clear, weather bright sunshine and high pressure! Only had this day to fish, so had to go with it.
A difficult but very enjoyable day in some of the best scenery the UK has to offer.

Has to be one of the best beats on the middle wye in terms of swim choices, accessibility, catches and just generally a really well kept beat. I will be back and hopefully before the end of the year. All fish caught on pellet and feeder.
