Water level between 1 and 0.9 metre above the Redbrook gauge and falling. Water cold. Rain shower over night. Over cast. Wind had changed downstream, yesterday was up stream. Weather started to become brighter and sunnier at lunch time. Got in the water early. Fished both deep and shallow. Different passes and used a dropped also. Unfortunately, nothing. But a good day. I will be back. Not a fish seen. Water coloured but clearing.

The conditions looked good today. An overcast morning, with the river having good clarity and holding 0.87 on the Erwood gauge. Sadly the only salmon I saw was a recovering one moving around the margins (presumably caught in the last week or so). I fished hard through the Island, Rock Pool and the Rectory, but only managed one shad (around 1.5lb) and a tiny brownie that hammered a collie dog only marginally smaller than itself.

Lovely bit of river with fish caught all along and some surprisingly big trout for the size of river.

Quiet day. Few mayfly and ymd showing but trout not really responding. Encountered a few good fish in a pool close to the top of the beat, thankfully had the 7ft 6” in the boot of my car to make the most of the harder to reach spots. Fish took a mayfly Emerger pattern. 3/4lb-1lb range.

Took one trout in the fast water, and lost a few others, including quite a nice one. The river started boiling at about 5pm, but before I could get to the fish the rain came down and I had to stop. But hey, that is fishing.
