Just one angler fished all day as others couldn’t make it due to health reasons.
Had 2 eels and a barbel just under 10lb. Luncheon meat definitely attracted the eels. Must have seen over 200 canoes but they were all polite and courteous for a change! They stopped after 3pm. Fishing was tough but still a good beat and look forward to fishing it again when a little more water running through.

Quite a quiet day Trout wise. As we came away, just before 5pm, we saw a rise starting. Weather dry and with sunny intervals and little wind, almost perfect conditions but no luck.

Great looking water, looked a bit fresher and with a bit more water on than a few weeks back on our last visit to the Wye.
Fished the top end of the beat in the morning, a good Chub landed first then a barbel of 6lb 10oz two further barbel hooked and lost. A number of smaller chub landed. Most taken on sweetcorn.
The other fish was a big dace on meat.
Moved to the other end of the beat mid afternoon and caught a good number of chub up to 1lb one decent fish hocked and lost. Slightly strange day, out of practice ?

Sultry overcast day with a gentle breeze. River low with algae build up in slow flowing areas. Southern arm of the river which flows around the ‘island’ at the bottom of Dinas now a trickle.

15 minute hatch of olives at 14:30 caught the attention of the martins but not the fish. Same with hatch of pale wateries around 17:00.

Three WBT on PTN fished on the edge of the fast water at the top of the beat

River was low and clear….. and fish were not their usual co-operative selves! We fished right up the beat for 6 trout and 1 grayling – nothing too big. The grayling really don’t seem to have got going yet, pretty well conspicuous by their absence. Mrs Otter paid us a visit last knockings – and am afraid the dreaded knotweed is back, will send an email with location for the habitat team. But still a wonderful beat to be on.
