Once again my long planned day's fishing spoiled by people wading then swimming on the opposite bank. As if that wasn't enough they swam across the river through the bottom end of my swim to hide in the bushes and get up to what can only be described as carnal activities. I will not return to Home fishery in the future as the risk of swimmers / canoeists disrespecting my use of the river is to great. Fishing wise I lost count of the sub 1lb Barbel and Chub I caught on pellet and meat. I did manage one 4lb Chub on float fished bread before my swim was disturbed and one 5lb Barbel on pellet at twilight.

The Wye was quite low and slow and the sun was bright. After three and a half hours without a nibble on various baits, at last I had a bite on meat as the light faded. The barbel took off down stream for about 30 yards with unstoppable force and went on resisting strongly for about another 10 minutes before I could net it. On the scales it went just under the magic ten. I had a couple more casts before dark; no more action but that fish was enough.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Spent two days on this beat, fishing the lower section (in between car park 1 and 2). The 1st day was the most successful, with both trout being caught including a nice 2lb. Missed several bites between the both of us as well.
Whilst fishing for trout in a deep area, a very large fish took a size 10 shrimp, before I knew it, I was down to the backing and he was far off in the distance and snapped at the leader. My line was wrapped around the rocks, resulting in some chunks being taken out. He jumped once in the distance, and looked like a sewin, but I understand this is quite rare, so perhaps a salmon. It was a complete shock, I just hope the poor guy doesn't still have a hook in him.
I routinely fly fish for carp, so used to fighting large fish, but I've never ran into something this strong.
Strangely, the second day, we did not see a single fish.
The conditions were great, the beat is really varied, with some lovely large deep pools, although, it was fairly shallow in most parts. Wading was quite challenging and casting was difficult at the lowest section.
The water was clear, and the waterfalls were amazing.
We did come across a petrol lawnmower in the river that was leaking, so removed it, however, there was a considerable amount of petrol around it, with some left in. Natural resources have been contacted.
Appart from the above issue, the river was very clean with very little waste.
All fish were released.
