Well for a change from my usual haunts went to Llanddewi, nice to have a crack on the Ithon, having not been here since last season so initially tackled up with a single tiny PTN tungsten nymph, one of my own creations with a flashback and tiny amount of red on tail!!!

Worked well, although river low, was reading 0.15 on gauge map at seven this morning !!! Bright sun and quite breezy when I started at ten . . . .

Two brownies this morning both about nine inches, good savage takes on the nymph, good fun, difficult to find any more although good to see year one of the grayling were back on form and with a size twenty f fly managed over a dozen tiny 4 - 6 inch grayling. Was great fun on the two weight rod, test your dry fly skills to the max, lightning quick too!!

Nice to see so many young grayling in the river, great for the future although I did see two comorants during my three hour sortie this morning ggggrrrrrrrr!!!! Dam things !!!

A fun few hours , river is a bit quiet to be honest and really somewhere more shaded like Noke or Litton may have scored better today. That said good fun as always and hey, beats a day at work hands down. . . . Back on another beat in a couple of days. Sorted!!!

Lovely sunny September day, rather too bright for fishing! Fished the bottom and middle sections. Forgot how hard the wading / fishing is here. We fished from 11am to 6pm and thoroughly enjoyed it. Left tired and staggering from slipping off big Usk rocks all day. There are lots of places where you’re just certain a trout will be - but no idea how you wan wade to the position needed to cast!

Lost one on a PTN fished duo, and a few missed takes on both dry and nymph. All in all the dish ended on the winning side for the day.

No rises seen, a lot of algae on the bed of the river, not sure of the health of the river. A warm and sunny day made it all very pleasant.

The Irfon is beautiful at this time of year, very quiet with virtually no rising fish . Trout 12” caught at 9.30 on a #18 para Adams in the fast water then nothing until 2.30, Grayling 2x 12”..13”..14” again all to the same size para Adams mid stream in quieter flow.

Beat:Cadora Backs

Fishing:Salmon

Fished Cadora Backs today with another guest salmon angler. Unsurprisingly given the conditions, we had a nil return. Some fish showing which may have been grilse but were probably large trout. Had a conversation with Nathan the Ghillie from the downstream beats which was interesting. There is little to attract fly only anglers to this beat under these conditions apart from Cadora pool. Canal like water in the rest of the beat but there was a better flow when I visited a few months ago.
Note to the owner. The rotting sheep carcass just above Cadora pool needs to be removed.

A lovely stretch of river. No fish caught probably down to our lack of skill
