Disappointingly, no fish caught or seen. I persisted without result. Tried with dry, wet and nymphs.
Weather a little cold but other than that .....
One of those 'confidence' sapping days!!

Lots of trout rising above mainly above the gutters and below the boat, three 8"-9" caught, a few missed, water cleared after a murky Sunday flow.

Nice beat with plenty of fish to have a go at. A little rusty but managed a couple of small browns fishing a dry upstream in a relatively short session. This beat is sometimes a little busy with members of the public and dog walkers, but still very pleasant none the less. Will definitely return!

First time out this season; first time on this beat; and first time for several years using a 6ft rod. 11.50 - 14.10hrs. I found the suggested access to the water easy at the bottom of the beat, and a piscatorial world in miniscule under the canopy; low water, some small dark olives, and feeding fish. However it soon became clear that they were taking something in, or just under the surface film. So replaced a size 16 dry Greenwell with an unweighted PT nymph. Spooked several, rose and missed a couple, a very brief encounter with another and brought two 8 inchers to hand before finishing just beyond the bends above the bridge. Since I was struggling with proper line management and drag avoidance with the short rod, I was delighted with this. However a word of warning, while enjoying my picnic a couple of very friendly Labradors arrived splashing their way downstream and had I been planning to continue, this would have put paid to any likely activity for an hour or so, I guess. In all other respects a great little beat, and rather less challenging than many of the Wild Streams. Lots of trout too! And a profusion of wonderful wild garlic on the bankside, as a bonus.

Very few rising trout, despite plenty of sand martins about. Used dry fly and caught 4 trout. 2 were small, the other 2 were just over the pound and I kept them. They both carried cormorant damage. I uprighted a ewe which was cast on her back. Farmer thanked me. Several goosanders on the river.

Fantastic day out courtesy of extremely helpful beat owner Pari, with tuition and extra kit from Justin Connelly (which was even more impressive considering we only decided to come the evening before!). Beat and river were in great condition, about .72 on the gauge. Really healthy fly life with hatches throughout the day, and trout rising. An accidental trout , a big pull, and a big splashy take kept things interesting. We will certainly be back.
