Another stunning day on the great river. No barbel or chub despite our best efforts. But an angry pike of about 10-12 pounds nailed my dead bait about mid afternoon to save the blank and duly impress my junior partner in crime. A great looking beat with a lovely variety of water - we will return next summer to attempt to winkle out some whiskered ones.

1 Pike

The water level was still relatively low and almost crystal clear. Netted two Grayling both to Dry Flies.
A clear sunny Autumnal day on this lovely beat.
The owners of the cottage were present and kindly allowed us both to fish the cottage pool.

2 Grayling

All fish taken in faster water, using small weighted nymphs - all returned safely. We tried running heavier flies through the gutters along the lower half of the beat, - but couldn't tempt anything.
First time for us on this beat, and we will be back.

A rare blank on this usually productive beat.

Fished a feeder all day without a bite until early evening when they came on after the sun was off the water

winter it was but not grayling. Tried the deeper pockets of water with deep bugs as nothing seen. As wind increased leaves became a problem. May give it another try in a couple of weeks when not so low and clear .
