Despite losing quite a few fish we still managed to catch a very good amount of barbel with the vast majority of the barbel going to my friend! I caught one on the float which is always a pleasure. A cracking day out!

Beat:Usk at Kemeys, above Usk Town
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
2 x trout 15 inches and 16 inches, Parachute Adams and Williams Favourite. A couple of hours before lunch roaming around with a dry fly rod. As the river was very low and the sun bright this morning, I was more than happy with that brace. Generally the Usk is fishing better early and late now, but it's noticeable that while it is low it is still running very clean and clear - which compares well with the colour and algae troubling the Wye and Monnow etc

Well, braved the WUF beat of the Pinsley Brook , and a private stretch , strewth jungle tactics were required !!!!!! Turned up at two , there was a fair amount of activity , but in the usual hard to get too places , by small feisty brownies , splashy rises . . . .
With the overcast conditions , there appeared to be quite a few trout visible , was nice to see . I attempted a rusty klinkhammer in a couple of the spots you can get too !!!!!!! And bingo had a superb little fish on , a perfect brownie in miniature , quickly admired then released .
It was a case of looking at the areas were I've had fish from before , and moving very very cautiously , only had the one brownie from the WUF beat , this one is very tricky , and the fish was hard earned to say the least !!!!
I did work along the private stretch , had one beauty , which was a cracker for this sized Brook , possibly ten inches , maybe more . . . .
The other two fish were taken on an eighteen f fly , good confident takes , and enjoyable three hours and lovely to see such vast insect life around this miniature haven , will try here again one more time in a week or so , and then I think the vegetation will just make it pretty dam impossible !!!!
Three well earned brownies caught and released , the usual stamp for two of the fish , at about seven inches , and the one cracker , great fun as always . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Again, what a privilege to be able to fish such a piece of water. Thank you
I really thought that some of the shallow runs looked idea for dry fly but alas there was a cold wind from the East and nothing much hatching. I took a few small brown trout on dry fly but in the end switched to Euro-nymphing with immediately improved results. A lot of small brown trout, the biggest no more than 12" and a good number of moderate grayling, the best probably about a pound. I worked really hard for those fish and it was most rewarding to get the success I did on a pretty dull day. Majority of fish on a black and orange perdigon nymph,# 18, or a silver bead perdigon # 14, a few fish on olive dry fly. Very few fish came from the "Flats" and most were in the deeper and faster runs..
