A pleasant spring day with the river looking in perfect condition. The water was very cold although the flies were coming off steadily. No Trout seen rising or caught on nymphs.

Nothing seen or caught. The river was quite high with the Ross on Wye gauge at 1.45m, so spinning was the order of the day.

2 x trout 13 and 14 inches, Woodcock and Hare's Lug and Olive Jingler. The river is running pretty high, but at least, on this beat, I don't have to ford it! Large dark olives hatching again between 12 and 1.30, but rather a lack of trout responding at the surface. As it turned out, I had four takes and converted two of them.

Really struggled today, no fish caught, a very sparse and short lived hatch of olives about 1pm but no fish responded.

water up at just under 1ft6 on brecon gauge which made for hairy wading in places , some areas just too powerful to wade safely . all trout came to heavily weighted baetis nymphs. there was a steady hatch somewhere between 1-2pm sadly only a few rises so carried on nymphing. all trout between 12 - 16 inches with five lost to hook pulls in the fast water one of which was heavy

Fished the length of the Chapel catch. River up and pushing through, but decent clarity. Should really have been spinning as despite the fastest sinking set up I had it was still barely 2ft down on the inside. No sign of any salmon. A few March Browns spluttered off around 12.15 but nothing rose to them.

I'd planned on fishing downstream at Llanellen today but on arriving at the water I found it to be too coloured. Through the marvels of technology I could see that river at Brecon was running clear so with the tapping of a few more buttons on my iPhone, it was back to Dinas for the second day running. The river was indeed clear and still a touch on the high side. A good hatch of LDOs from about 11.30 which went on for a good 90 minutes or more. Some fish were rising but they were fussy and very spooky. My usually dependable CDC LDO pattern struggled, perhaps because it had to compete with hundreds of naturals but I managed 4 nice trout (1lb+) and missed a few. Not a single March Brown was spotted today whereas yesterday the same stretch had been littered with them.

First time on the Wye, river was high and fast so wading was difficult at best. Fished from the banks where I could and waded in as far as I dared but this meant fishing was touch limited.
Landed one small trout around 5/6” on the right edge (looking down stream) of Bathing pool, caught on a Gold Bead PTN....didn’t see/encounter any other fish.
I will return in the summer months when the river should be a little easier to navigate, still enjoyed the day though despite conditions and the weather held off enough for me to stay dry which is always a bonus
