A hard days fishing as expected with snow melt still working its way through the system. The river was very high, coloured, and dropping fast. We found some slacks to fish and had just one bite between us, resulting in one barbel of around 4lb.

The river was in flood. Very coloured, very fast with lots of debris. The upstream end of the stretch was unfishable. Lots of snags on the bottom. Managed to find some slack water downstream and caught one barbel of 5lb on meat.

It’s a beautiful bit of river, but the conditions were far from perfect. Looking forward to coming back in the summer.

With the river continuing to rise rapidly we had limited expectations for much fishing action on the Creel but were thankful the wind and rain was easing.
Obviously our plan was to fish in the slack water but with the river roaring past relentlessly there was not too much of it!!
Some late afternoon sunshine casting a bewitching light on the beat gave us a glimpse of spring and a solitary decent chub made for a rewarding day under testing circumstances.
Thanks to the WUF for all your help over the course of the season and we look forward to better days next summer and autumn...hopefully!!
