AT LAST, the Irfon back in condition and down to 0.62 on the Cilmery gauge. Despite drizzle all day, it did not rise again. 17 x grayling 10-17 inches., plus a couple of out of season trout on various nymphs, Peeping Caddis, Pink Shrimp etc. Mostly 10-13 inch shots, plus one nice fish.

First time on this beat so started early to walk the beat. In the conditions prevailing, there were 4 swims I felt suitable to fish. No joy during the morning. Returned later in afternoon. About 3:3O lost possibly a large Barbel. Hook to 8lb nylon line broke at loop knot leaving me with 2 loops and leger gear!

river rising on arrival, further upstream on the arrow must have been rain overnight. not to be put off gave it a few hours , sadly only connecting with the resident trout. a few of which were around the 18 inch mark . the grayling on this day were not having it . i now know a good height for trotting the arrow and the gauge really does need to be a fair bit lower than today.

River was a bit pacey for the Pike, but managed to get one at around 15lb. Lost another, but it was 20 minutes before catching this one from the same spot, so potentially could have been the same fish.
Float ledgered Bluey was the successful method.

No bites all day tried various swims, baits and presentations ie straight lead and feeder but not even a chub to show for my efforts. It was cold and the river was pushing through with plenty of water in it. That’s why they call it fishing not catching.

River still high and pushing through hard. Fished French nymph only connected with 2 Grayling
