No catch because no fishing was possible. The river level was at the top of the gauge so I turned tail and went home.

The River was in perfect condition when we arrived. Coloured but not in full flood, but by the end of the day it had risen around 5 inches and was looking very different. 7 Barbel between 2 anglers, the best at 7lb 5oz. No Chub which was a surprise. The best addition to the kit bag was 2 screw-in dog tethers with rope, which made getting up and down a very slippery bank much easier.

Conditions were really good, river up but not too high, dropping at first but then rising quickly in the latter part of the day, cloudy and very mild. Fun day, took me an hour or 2 to find the fish but when I did bites were pretty regular, bites dried up towards the end of the day when the river was rising quickly. Used feeder with hemp and pellets and boil hook baits. All fish between 6 and 7.5lb. chub around 3lbs. Glad I have a 4x4 otherwise I would have had no chance of getting out of there!

A combination of not making it to the river until 1430 and my own inability to fish resulted in one grayling. Caught on a size 12 shrimp. My first time to this beat so learning the pools. A bit of colour to the water but still fairly clear and easily wadeable.

Obviously some ' bank work ' being carried out upstream as both yesterday and today was being inundated with debris for 2/3 hours from 10 A.M. onwards. Now on a river like the Wye you expect to encounter debris especially at this time of the year but this was not natural as the large 'passing' branches and 'rafts' had clearly been cut. Basically, somewhere upstream you've got a fishery owner or angling club who are too lazy to get this debris onto the bank and dispose of it properly so instead dump it in the 'oggin' not giving a toss about who or what it affects downstream...

The river is improving since last year's pollution with some larger fish now present.

The two of us had the whole beat to ourselves on this beautiful Autumnal day and the river was in good flow with good colour. The fishing all happened in the first hour and then went quiet, but it was such a beautiful day it was a joy to be by the river. We both fished swim feeders with maggot and pellets and also trotted maggot as we searched for the fish. I look forward to coming back
