Been wanting to fish this pool for quite a while now. My brother & I booked a day to try it out, didn't catch any fish on this occasion, we tried a few methods & different baits (sweetcorn & pellets).

A lovely pool & location. Will give it another go to see if we have more luck.

Fish were rising at the beginning of the day and taking very small insects mostly at the tails of the pools. Everything went quiet from midday until 2.00pm and then it was all go until 5.00pm. Ten days ago I was wondering where the trout were after only catching grayling on the Irfon but today was the opposite.

Trout were mostly small but plentiful. I lost more than I caught and the biggest at 12" came to a size 12 silver sedge the rest were caught on a selection of size 18 dries. The 9" grayling had a size 18 para Adams in fairly fast water. There were 5 goosanders on the water.

I was fortunate to find Nathan the gillie there on arrival late morning, and he gave me a great deal of useful advice as a newcomer to the beat, saying that the spinner would work best, as the water was a foot or more up and coloured. Accordingly I spun for a couple of hours in Little Run and Triangles and saw several fish move but no takes. The water was clearing and slowly dropping (1.07 at Redbrook at 6.45pm), so I spent most of the afternoon on the double-hander, again no result. But as soon as I returned to the spinning rod at 5.30 I took a 6lb grilse from Little Run by the steps on a lightweight yellow FC. The fish was coloured but very lively, and it threw the hook in the net, so it swam off as fresh as paint. A very pleasant beat to fish (specially when you get one!) Please note that the water gauge link on the fishery info sheet is out of date - Redbrook is now at http://rloi.naturalresources.wales/ViewDetails?station=4028.

River slightly coloured which was great, caught from the start in all swims. 11 Barbel which ranged from 1lb to 2lb, some on float and bomb. This must be a Barbel nursery as there are so many small fish, great for the future. Plenty of snags though. The only downside to a beautiful day was the bloody canoes which were relentless. But overall still great to be catching in stunning surroundings.

After 2 fabulous days on Backney surely things could not get better could it. Oh yes! Middle Hill Court is a truely stunning scenic beat . Admittly short on pegs but catch it on a high river and your in for a treat. Slow start but arm aching action was soon to follow with a number of high nines and the second doulbe of my Wye trip in a 10lb 7oz stunning fish. Roll on tomorrow!

Good height for spinning but i wanted to stick to the fly. No sign of any fish about , but every cast felt there was a chance.
